Platte County closed with four straight wins to take the consolation bracket finals, while Park Hill went 1-2-1 at the Winnetonka Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Platte County tied with Ray-Pec in its first match, but then lost 2-0 to St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic. Wins against St. Pius X, Truman, Grain Valley and Winnetonka followed for the Pirates, now 9-2-1.
Platte County had matching 25-23 scores against Ray-Pec, winning the first and dropping the second. Bryn McGehe had five kills and three aces, while Ashley Bell had 11 digs and eight assists.
In the lone loss, the Pirates fell 25-23, 25-23 to St. Michael’s. McGehe and Aly Anderson had six kills each. Carli Hensley led a trio of Pirates in double figures with 18 digs, while Gracie Acker had 13 and McGehe added 12. Ashley Bell had 13 assists.
Platte County beat St. Pius X, 25-19 and 25-19. McGehe had eight kills, nine assists and two aces. Bell had eight assists and digs.
Facing Truman for the second time in three days, the result stayed the same as Platte County won in two, 25-9 and 25-20.
Anderson, Harper Sinclair and Riley Stehlik led a balanced attack with six kills each. McGehe had 10 assists and six digs, tied with Anderson for the team lead. Bell had 10 assists to match McGehe for the team-high.
In a conference preview, the Pirates beat Grain Valley, 25-8 and 25-16. Anderson had five kills and 12 digs, while Bell had four of the team’s eight aces. Freshman Kate Brown had three blocks, while Mcehe had 11 assist and 10 digs.
In the final match, the Pirates bounced back after losing the first set 25-19, to win the last two, 25-16 and 25-21.
McGehe had 10 kills, 10 kills and 16 digs for the Pirates. Stehlik had nine digs and shared the team-high with four blocks with Brown. Bell had 19 assists and 11 digs. Anderson’s 18 digs paced the squad.
The Trojans’ lone win came against Barstow, winning 25-15 and 25-19. Sabrina Lane had five kills and four aces, while Rachel Pella had three blocks. Valencia Zamora had five digs and Landyn Powell had four assists.
In the tie, the Trojans split 25-20, 15-25 against Truman. Pella had nine kills and three blocks, tied with Hannah Graves for the team lead. Alyssa Ramos had six digs, while Powell had nine assists.
Kearney posted a 2-0 win, while Ray-Pec won 2-1 against Park Hill.
Lane and Graves had four kills each in a 25-23, 25-20 loss to Kearney. Kori Smith had five digs and Powell had eight assists in that match.
The Trojans won the first set, 25-18, against Ray-Pec before losing 27-25, 25-23.
Smith had four aces and 14 digs for Park Hill and Birmingham led the offensive attack with eight kills. Powell and Lyons had a combined 23 assists.
MOKAN Tournament
Park Hill South closed out the MOKAN Tournament at Lee’s Summit West High School with four straight victories on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Panthers dropped its first two sets, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas (25-15, 25-20) and Lee’s Summit West (25-21, 25-19). Against St. Thomas Aquinas, Lauren Leners had six kills, while Alex Dvorak had two blocks. Arley Anderson had eight assists and Kacy Lewallen had seven digs.
Michelle Dvorak had five kills and two blocks, both leading the team against Lee’s Summit West. Lewallen had 10 digs and Anderson had 16 assists.
Facing Columbia Battle, Park Hill South won 25-17, 25-18. Lewallen had four of the Panthers’ eight aces, while Michelle Dvorak had eight kills. Anderson had 10 assists, while Hannah Knight and Abbie Day both had seven digs.
Abbie Day had 10 digs and three blocks for the Panthers in a 25-11, 25-6 win against Staley. Anderson had 18 assists and three aces, while Leners and Michelle Dvorak shared a team-high with six kills.
A balanced offensive attack led to a 25-10, 25-15 win against Shawnee Mission Northwest. Rachel Francis had eight kills, followed by seven by Michelle Dvorak and Leners with six. Anderson provided 24 assists.
Park Hill South closed out the tournament with a 2-1 win against Olathe Northwest, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18. Leners and Day had nine kills, while Michelle Dvorak added eight. She also tied for a team-high with Alex Dvorak with two blocks. Anderson had 20 assists and Lewallen had 11 digs.

The Pirates swept the Patriots, 25-20 and 25-10, in conference play on Thursday, Sept. 23 in Independence, Mo.
Ashley Bell, a junior, had 10 digs and 11 assists, while Gracie Acker led the team with 12 digs. Bryn McGehe led the offense with 12 kills.
Park Hill 2, Oak Park 0
The Trojans picked up a 25-23, 25-20 against Oak Park on Thursday, Sept. 13 at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Mo.
Sabrina Lane had eight kills, while Kristen Birmingham and Rachel Pella had six kills apiece, while Pella led the way with four blocks. Kori Smith had 11 digs, one more than Lane. Aliyah Lyons accounted for 12 of the Trojans’ 25 assists.
Lee’s Summit West 2, Park Hill 1
The Titans won the final two sets to pick up a win on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Park Hill won the first set, 25-23, but dropped the last two, 25-8 and 25-23.
Sabrina Lane and Kristen Birmingham combined for 17 kills, while Birmingham and Rachel Pella had two blocks each. Kori Smith led the Trojans with 18 digs, while Lane had 14. Landyn Powell and Aliyah Lyons had 24 of Park Hill’s 26 assists.

The Pirates picked up a Suburban Conference Blue Division win on Tuesday, Sept. 11, dispatching the Warriors 25-20 and 25-17.
Bryn McGehe had 10 kills and three aces. Carli Hensley led the Pirates with 16 digs, while Aly Anderson added 10. Ashley Bell contributed 14 assists.
