Platte County wins home invitational

Platte County won the championship of its home swim meet on Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Pirates racked up 480 points and easily dominated the 11-team field. Second-place Ray-Pec finished with 326 points, while Platte County also beat conference foes Smithville and Winnetonka.

Platte County won a pair of relays, while Shannon Banark won a pair of individual events.

Banark joined Drew DeLay, Lindsey Swindler and Sophia Zimmerman won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:00.95, an eight-second margin over Harrisonville.

In the 200-yard freestyle, DeLay, Swindler, Zimmerman and Banark won in 1:49.60, a three-second victory over Ray-Pec.

Banark won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.29 and took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.36, the only swimmer to break the 1-minute mark.

DeLay, a freshman, won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.82, beating teammate Swindler, who finished in 1:18.50. DeLay added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle.

Emilia Wisniewski, Maddie Kuntz, Meredith Ballou and Sage Nichols took third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
