The Platte County girl’s golf team has continued the tradition of winning the conference when the Pirates came out in first place at the Suburban Conference Championship Blue Division at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on Oct. 4.
For the first time this season, the Pirates had their top-4 golfers score in the 80s. Eden Shipp led Platte County with a score of 81 and Bailey Silcott ended with 83 strokes, as the duo included the top-2 individuals on the day.
“We are peaking at the right time and need to keep this momentum going into the district tournament,” Platte County head coach Trevor Short said. “The team played awesome today and came away with a well deserved conference title.”
Ella Green finished with 87 strokes and Lily Ricketts shot an 89 to give all four golfers a score under 90. Brylie Kovar was the fifth Pirate who competed and she ended the day with 101 strokes.
Platte County ended with a total score of 340 on the day, which was 37 less than second place Kearney. The conference streak began in 2016 with a team that included Jessalyn Shipp, Kasydie Shipp, Taylor Holbrook, McKennah Houlahan and Abby White.
“Immediately following the tournament, the varsity team loaded up in the van and headed to Eagles Landing Golf Course in Belton for their district practice round. We were a little tired from the tournament, but wanted to get a good look at the course to prepare and make a game plan,” Short said.
Platte County will look to continue the impressive performance when they compete next. On Oct. 6, the Pirates will head to Paradise Point for the 92 Showdown versus Smithville and Kearney.
