Republicans issue election resolution

Just prior to the August primary election held Aug. 2, the Platte County Republican Central Committee issued a resolution supporting Republican organizations in Arizona and Wisconsin and rejecting the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The resolution was announced via a press release last week, and reads, in part, “We believe the 2020 election violated Article One and Two of the U.S. Constitution, that various secretaries of state throughout the country illegally circumvented their state legislatures in conducting their elections in multiple illegal ways,” the resolution states, including a list of concerns.

The resolution also cites the documentary “2000 Mules,” stating it “irrefutably proves election fraud occurred in Milwaukee County, Wis., Maricopa County, Ariz., and many other counties in determinative ‘swing states’ during the 2020 election.”

These irregularities referenced in the resolution point to what they consider fraud in five states that affected the election result in favor of President Joe Biden.

In the release, the Republican Central Committee said the resolution was not directed toward the Platte County Board of Elections.

However, the resolution also cites a report stating “Missouri elections are impossible to validate.”

In a recent story in the Citizen, local election officials Chris Hershey and Wendy Flanigan outlined the county board of elections public test of election equipment. Tests are conducted before and after each election to ensure the security of the local vote.

The resolution states the Missouri report’s findings “Showed Missouri voter rolls are inflated with thousands who have moved, died, or have not voted in decades; canvassing door-to-door uncovered ‘phantom,’ ‘lost’ and ‘stolen’ votes; and Missouri’s voting equipment has the capacity to connect to the internet making results susceptible to hacking and manipulation.”

“Everything we do is done in bi-partisan teams including testing,” Hershey told the Citizen. “Pre- and post-testing is open for public observation and to the media. No equipment used to program or count ballots is ever connected to the internet.”

The Platte County Democratic Central Committee issued a statement in response to the resolution.

“The resolution adopted by the Platte County Republican Central Committee rejecting the results of the 2020 election makes allegations that are unsupported by facts and have been rejected in court over 60 times (many before Republican judges) and raises baseless conspiracy theories,” said David Christian, chair of the Platte County Democratic Central Committee. “These statements undermine public faith in our democracy and will discourage voter participation in future elections. The people promoting this resolution are unfit for public office at any level. I call on all local Republican officeholders and candidates to repudiate this irresponsible resolution by their Republican Central Committee.”
