Schuster becomes district champ in 100th career win

At the same time as North Platte senior Kalli Schuster became a district champion, the 135-pound wrestler simultaneously won her 100th career match.

Schuster entered the Class 1 District 4 Tournament with 96 career wins and a 38-6 record on the season. While she attends North Platte High School, Schuster is on the Mid-Buchanan girls’ wrestling team that co-ops with her school.

Schuster won all four of her matches at Kearney High School with pins – with all but the final one taking less than two minutes – and became a district champion with a 2:22 win by fall over Lathrop’s McKayla Knight. This will be the senior’s first trip to state.

Audrey Buckler (155) and Sierra Crook (115) are the other two North Platte athletes who are on Mid-Buchanan’s roster. Buckler opened up the tournament with a pair of wins by fall against Bre Paul (Lathrop) and Danica Green (Kearney).

Buckler matched up with Odessa’s Brianna Ford in the semifinals and lost on a 4-2 decision. The 155-pound wrestler’s high school career came to an end in the next match when she was pinned in 2:25 by Lafayette County’s Lorelei Weaver as Buckler ended with a 23-15 record in her senior campaign.

Crook started the postseason tournament with a loss, getting pinned in 5:36 to Tarkio’s Dylan Drummond. The junior had two straight pins before being eliminated by South Harrison’s Kentli Whitaker in a 1:20 pin.

West Platte’s sole wrestler Kristen Crockett didn’t quite make the cut to qualify for state, going 1-2 in districts and ending the year with an 11-16 record. Sheena Ward (University Academy Charter) knocked Crockett into the consolation round with a 5:10 pin in the opening match.

Crockett pinned Excelsior Springs’ Gabby Scrivener in 2:23 to earn her first postseason win of the night. Gillian Davenport (Lafayette County) ended Crockett’s West Platte career with a 4:42 win by fall.
