The Platte County Sheriff’s Office is moving to its new location in Kansas City this week.
The office was closed Monday, March 18 and remained closed through Wednesday, March 20 during the move. During that closure, the sheriff’s office did not process records requests or concealed carry applications. All other sheriff’s office operations remained in service.
“If you see a bunch of officers at the courthouse facility looking like moving people this week, that’s what they’re doing,” said Major Erik Holland at the county commission administrative session Monday.
The office is scheduled to reopen Thursday, March 21 at the former Platte County Resource Center, located at 11724 NW Plaza Circle, near KCI Airport. The county’s patrol, investigations and administrative divisions will be located at the former resource center, while the detention and dispatching divisions will remain in Platte City.
The move is part of the federally-funded capital improvement projects the county has planned to ease crowding at the Platte City courthouse complex. The county received nearly $20 million in funding through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds are being used to reconfigure offices and update the historic courthouse building.
