Platte County was shaken by a rare earthquake late last week.
At at about 1:45 p.m. Friday, March 15 an earthquake occurred in Ferrelview. The 3.5 magnitude quake originated at a depth of 9.8 kilometers beneath Ferrelview, according to the United States Geological Survey. As of Monday, 134 people had reported feeling the quake.
Ferrelview City Clerk April Baxter reported to The Citizen that she didn’t feel the quake and said people had been calling city hall to report they hadn’t felt it either. On social media, people from Platte City to Kansas City reported feeling shaking, with most attributing it to something hitting their houses or dismissing it as rumbles associated with nearby mining operations.
