The Smokehouse Barbecue location in Zona Rosa was evacuated due to a small chimney fire around 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
Staff noticed the fire and quickly evacuated the building. No injuries were reported. The Kansas City Fire Department and Southern Platte County Fire Protection District responded, with Kansas City police cordoning off the main entrance to Zona Rosa during the firefight.
Although images from witnesses of fire shooting from the chimney emerged online, the fire was contained to the roof and quickly extinguished.
The restaurant has reopened and damage was contained to the chimney.
Smokehouse opened its first location in Gladstone in 1987 and currently operates three locations — Gladstone, Zona Rosa and Independence.
