South girls pile on more postseason awards

The historic Park Hill South girls basketball team is still bringing in postseason honors following an undefeated regular season campaign.

The Panthers swept the district’s top honors as head coach Josh Dorr was named Class 6 District 8 Coach of the Year for the second time in three years with junior Addison Bjorn winning her third consecutive District Player of the Year award. Senior LaNicia Parker was also named to the all-district team as a 40% shooter from 3-point range, averaging 14.9 and 7.31 rebounds per game.

At the state level, Bjorn was also been named an all-state forward for the third straight year and Class 6 Player of the Year for the first time. That comes as little surprise following a standout season where she averaged 21.9 points and 11.62 rebounds per game and earned numerous other accolades, including Missouri’s Girls Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year.

Dorr guided Park Hill South to a 28-game winning streak as the Panthers returned to the district championship game for the third straight year, claiming another conference championship.

South’s season abruptly ended after suffering their first loss all year in the district championship against state finalists Staley. The Panthers were ranked No. 2 in the state for most of the season but fell to No. 5 in the final MBCA poll.

While Bjorn and Parker eye success on the track this spring as former district champions, Bjorn’s immediate focus will be spent on the hardwood.

The 6-foot-2 star will join the USA Women’s Junior National Team Minicamp from April 4-6 in Tampa, Florida. Bjorn was one of 45 athletes selected to participate in the camp, which is being held in conjunction with the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four.

In Class 5 District 8 girls basketball, Platte County senior duo Addy Schlake and Lauren Stone were also named to the all-district team. Like the Panthers, the Pirates also saw their season conclude in the district championship.

Stone was among the best 3-point shooters in the state, knocking down 61 triples throughout the season and averaging 14.38 points per game. Schlake was among the best rebounders and shooters from the field, averaging nearly 8.88 rebounds per game with a 48.9 field goal percentage.
