LEE’S SUMMIT – Park Hill South had the third-place runner on both sides of the Kansas City Suburban Conference Silver Division Cross-Country Meet at Lee’s Summit North High School on Oct. 14.
Park Hill South sophomores Thomas Garrett and Madilynn Conklin both earned third place in the boys’ and girls’ conference races. On the day, the Lady Panthers earned second place with 72 points – six less than third-place Lee’s Summit and well behind first-place Liberty who had 23 points – and the Panthers took third place with 90 points.
Park Hill was also at the meet with its girls taking fifth place with 125 points. The Trojans ended in sixth place with 134 points.
Liberty had the first two finishers in the girls’ race, followed by Conklin in third place. She crossed the finish line in 19:14.36.
Melania Puszczak earned sixth place in 19:32.2 and Andrea Garcia ended in 15th place in 20:58.01. Zoe Flook crossed the finish line in 21:48.29 in 22nd place and Mia James took 26th place in 22:06.07.
Delaney Nash ended the 5K with a time of 22:43.94, earning 31st place. Sophia Osterhaus was the last Lady Panther to cross the finish line, doing so in 23:16.55 for 36th place.
Natalie Gerdes led the way for the Lady Trojans, taking fifth place with a time of 19:30.97. There were 18 other runners who finished before another Park Hill runner, which was Alice Keefe who ended in 21:58.32.
Ava Sullivan and Jordan Umstattd were close together, finishing in 28th and 30th places, respectively. Sullivan crossed the finish line in 22:36.45 and Umstattd crossed the finish line in 22:41.81.
Annie Chambers, Stella Grothaus and Reagan Kastner finished back-to-back-to-back to round up the top-40. The Park Hill trio all ran in under 25 minutes.
In the boys’ race, Garrett was right over seven seconds behind the runner-up and right under 18 seconds behind the conference champion, both of whom were from Liberty. Garrett crossed the finish line in 15:41.69.
Tanner Clippard was the next man up for Park Hill South, taking eighth place with a time of 16:14.81. Grant Windmeyer earned 18th place with a time of 16:55.28.
The Panthers had David Meyer, Henry Worth and Benedict Yager finish from 30 to 32nd places to help lead to the third-place finish as a team. Meyer ran in 17:41.76, Worth ended in 18:03.32 and Yager finished in 18:13.58.
Jakob Johnston was Park Hill’s top runner, earning 13th place with a time of 16:41.3. Hudson Huff ended in 21st place in 17:18.66 and Colton Hardy ended in 26th place in 17:37.59. Tristan Jennings, Nathan Chen and Noah Jackman were three of the last four runners as they all ended in less than 20 minutes.
