Suburban tennis roundup: Norris wins 100th match

Park Hill South claimed first place at the Suburban Conference North Tournament held on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Oak Park High School in Kansas City North.

The Panthers had a finalist and champion in three of the four brackets and finished with 56 points. Park Hill was second with 50 and St. Teresa’s Academy took third with 48. Platte County finished with 30 points and took sixth place.

Park Hill South’s Chloe Norris picked up career win No. 100 in a match against St. Joseph Central on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Riverside.

In the ‘A’ singles, Park Hill’s Elise McFee reached the finals, falling 8-0 to St. Teresa’s Claire Thimgan. Platte County’s Karlee Chase finished third, ending with an 8-1 win against Sara Dillon from Kearney.

Park Hill South’s Taylor Brown took fifth in that bracket. 

Park Hill South’s Jacklynn Pham won the ‘B’ singles title with an 8-3 victory against Park Hill’s Elizabeth Appel.

In doubles, Park Hill South had champions in both.

Chloe Norris and Vivien Hamilton won the ‘A’ doubles title with an 8-2 win against St. Joseph Central’s Evan Sigars/Eugenia Rodriguez-Savage.

The Park Hill South squad gave up only three points in its three wins.

Sydney Dial and Nicki Matthews secured an 8-1 win over Amber Granberg and Breanne Garstang of St. Teresa’s capture the ‘B’ doubles crown. 

Park Hill’s Sanjana Kotha/Taleen Adjemian ended up taking third with a win over Kearney’s Emily Shepherd and Josie Holst. The Park hill team lost 8-4 to the Park Hill South duo in the semifinals.

Park Hill South 8, Park Hill 1

The Panthers dominated their rival in a showdown on Monday, Sept. 30.

Chloe Norris, Vivien Hamilton, Syndey Dial, Nicki Matthews and Jacklynn Pham won singles matches for the Panthers.

The lone win for the Trojans came from Elizabeth Appel, an 8-6 win over Taylor Brown at No. 5 singles.

Park Hill South won the double matches, 8-1 (Norris/Hamilton); 8-3 (Dial/Matthews) and 8-4 (Brown/Pham).

That is the Panthers’ 11 straight win against Park Hill, dating back to 2011. 

Park Hill 6, Blue Springs 3

The Trojans won their fourth match in a row with a victory at Blue Springs on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Park Hill won four of the six singles matches to build on a 2-1 lead after doubles in the Suburban Gold matchup.

Audrey Lynn, Sanjana Kotha, Elizabeth Appel and Grace Yu won in singles for Park Hill.

In doubles, Elise McFee/Jaday Ray won at No. 1 and Kotha/Yu prevailed at No. 3.

Park Hill South 8, Lee’s Summit 1

Matched No. 3 of the week saw the Panthers pick up a third straight conference victory by besting the Tigers on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Chloe Norris won 8-0 at No. 1 singles and Vivien Hamilton posted an 8-1 win at No. 2 singles. The two then won at No. 1 doubles, 8-0.

Nicki Matthews, Taylor Brown and Jacklynn Pham got wins in singles, while Dial/Matthews and Pham/Brown won in doubles.

Park Hill South 9, St. Joseph Central 0 

Chloe Norris picked up career win No. 100 against St. Joseph Central on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Park Hill South High School.

The Indians scored only three points in six singles matches as Park Hill South dominated the Suburban Conference Red Division matchup.

Norris, Vivien Hamilton, Sydney Dial, Nicki Matthews, Taylor Brown and Jacklynn Pham won in singles, the latter four didn’t yield a point.

Norris/Hamilton, Dial/Matthews and Brown/Pham secured doubles victories.

Park Hill 7, Lee’s Summit North 2

The Trojans won five of six singles to beat the Broncos on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in a Suburban Conference Gold Division showdown.

Elise McGee, Audrey Lynn, Sanjana Kotha, Elizabeth Appel and Taleen Adjemian picked up wins during singles play. In doubles play, Lynn/Appel won at No. 2 and Koth/Adjemian won at No. 3.

Park Hill South 8, Liberty North 1

The Panthers swept doubles and won five of the six singles matches to win on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
