Three Platte County schools competed in the Platte County Chris Stubbs Invitational Cross-Country meet as the Platte County, North Platte and West Platte cross-country teams ran against each other at Platte Ridge Park on Sept. 16.
The Pirate boys’ cross-country team was the top Platte County boys’ team in the race as it finished in third place overall with 78 total points. Platte County’s best runner, Andrew Early, led the race early but dropped out after an asthma attack.
The Pirates had to rely on Andrew Johnson to be the first to finish for the team as the sophomore ended at third overall with a time of 17:53. Senior Jace Trimble was the second Pirate to finish and sixth overall with an 18:20 time.
Kage Audas finished 16th overall with a time of 19:00 and sophomore Kade Meinke ended 27th at 19:36. Freshman Benjamin Letcher and senior Anthony Talley finished in 34th and 37th place respectively.
The West Platte boys’ cross-country team ended fifth overall with 142 points and was led by the second-place runner, Charlie Kinslow. The junior ended with a time of 17:18 to take home a silver medal among individuals at the race.
Jonah McGivern was the second fastest Blue Jay on the day when the freshman ended in 28th place with a time of 19:42. Tristan Newkirk ran third for West Platte with a 19:58 time, finishing 35th overall, and Ryan Pattison ran fourth for the Blue Jays with a split of 19:58.
The Panther boys’ cross-country team ended in ninth place out of the 13 boys’ teams as North Platte finished with 229 points at Platte Ridge Park. Noah Heckman led his team with a top-5 finish when he had a time of 18:12 and earned fifth place overall.
Joshuah Schaffart was the second Panther to finish the race when the junior ended in 24th place with a time of 19:28. Gabriel Goodlet and Wyatt Stapleton were the next two North Platte runners to finish.
West Platte sophomore Julia Pattison was the top-finisher in the girls’ race as the Blue Jay ended with a time of 20:46. In second place overall was Platte County sophomore Sisely Mitchell with a 21:24 time.
The next two runners to cross the finish line were Panthers as the North Platte girls’ cross-country team ended in second place overall with 47 points. Freshman Brianna Debord took third place with a time of 22:09 and Jessa Cassity was right after her with a time of 22:44.9.
Shelby Lingle took 13th place with a 23:59.4 split, and Alaina Scroggins ended in 24:49, earning herself a finish in 18th place. Lonee French was the next Panther to finish as the junior ran the 5k in 26:34.
The Platte County girls’ cross-country team ended in third place overall in the girls’ competition with 60 points. Freshman Lily Kytassaari was the second Pirate to cross the finish line coming in ninth place with a time of 23:35.
Sophomore Alex Beaman ended 25th overall with a 25:47 time and freshman Madison Palmer came in 27th place in 26:00. Amelia Kidd and Marrisa Orellana were the next two Pirates to finish to help lead the team to a third-place finish.
