The woman who lost her life last week in a train crash in Kansas last week was a long-time employee of Platte County.
Allison Richardson, 38, of Platte City, died Wednesday, Oct. 16 in rural Atchison County, Kan. at the scene of the crash. The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Jeremy McAfee of Savannah, Mo., died later at an Atchison hospital.
The accident is still under investigation, but according to preliminary reports, McAfee stopped the Hyundai Elantra he was driving on the railroad tracks at around midnight Tuesday night. The reason is unknown. The Union Pacific train collided with the car at approximately 45 miles per hour in the area of River Road and 244th Street in a rural area.

An employee of Platte County for 13 years, Richardson worked as a deputy clerk for Juvenile Court Services for eight years and spent the last five years as the Circuit Court’s jury commissioner.
