Trojans double team's lift Park Hill over Liberty in big Gold Division match

With an opportunity to be in the driver’s seat of a top-2 finish in the Kansas City Suburban Conference Gold Division, the Park Hill boys’ tennis team (13-2) delivered, narrowly taking down Liberty 5-4 on April 21.

Entering the match, the Trojans and Blue Jays both had one conference loss on the season, with fewer games ahead of them than behind them. Park Hill took advantage in the doubles matches – winning two of the three – as the conference rivals split the singles matches.

Park Hill’s Kobe Smith helped the Trojans take down Liberty 5-4 on April 21.

Ethan Slaggie and Carson Beach took down their doubles opponent by a score of 8-5, while Eli Stammler and Will Kirtley beat Liberty’s Cole Johnson and Kymon Warman 8-6. Tommy Matthys, Kobe Smith and Stammler all beat their singles opponents to lead the Trojans to the victory.

There are five teams in the mix for the Kansas City Suburban Conference Gold Division Title – Liberty North, Liberty, Park Hill, Lee’s Summit West and Blue Springs South – and all have at least one conference loss, except for Liberty North. Right now, the Eagles are the only team that controls their own destiny in conference play, as Liberty North is 4-0 in the Gold Division.

Park Hill currently holds a 4-0 record in the conference as it fell to Lee’s Summit West 5-4 in conference play last week, but the Titans were defeated by Liberty by the same score on the next day. The Blue Jays victory helped the Trojans stay alive in the Gold Division.

Park Hill also beat Lincoln Prep and Blue Springs South on the week to bring its season record to 12-2 ahead of the matchup with Liberty. There are four big conference matchups this week across the board, which includes a matchup between Park Hill and Liberty North on April 28.
