When the Platte County and Park Hill boys’ golf teams finished up the golf match at Shiloh Springs Golf Course on April 21, Trojan sophomore Gavin Schaag walked away as the champion.

Schaag was three strokes better than the next golfer – Platte County’s Carson Childers – in the matchup with the Pirates as the Trojan had 40 strokes on the day. Park Hill narrowly defeated Platte County 188 to 191, while both schools also had its junior varsity teams compete.

Parker Amos was the third best golfer on the day when the Pirates finished with 44 strokes, followed by a pair of junior varsity Trojans who finished with 46 strokes: Andy Fredal and Ty Schreck. The Trojans also had the sixth, eighth and tenth place finishers with Baker Fredal, Ethan Howell and Zach Cato.

For the rest of the Pirates’ varsity, Jake Kingery ended with 50 strokes, Dylan Mitchell had 54 strokes and Jackson Gabbert finished with 56 strokes. Josh Knickman, from Platte County’s junior varsity, ended with 48 strokes in seventh place.

“At this moment in our golf season we have a mixed bag of how we are playing,” Platte County head golf coach Trevor Short said. “We’ve had multiple players have success here and there, but we need to get them all to have that successful day on the same day. With only a few weeks until we start the postseason, we have to start being more consistent.”

Platte County will look to bounce back when it heads to Tiffany Greens Golf Course for a quad-match on April 27. Park Hill will also compete in a quad-match when the Trojans head to Adams Pointe Golf Course on April 28.
