Trojans, Panthers lock up top-3 seeds in districts

Park Hill junior Tanner Poirier and Park Hill South junior Jake Hubbard has helped lead their teams to top-3 seeds in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.

The Park Hill (12-6) and Park Hill South (10-6) boys’ soccer teams clinched the top-3 seeds in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.

The postseason tournament is set to be played at Oak Park High School with the Trojans being the No. 2 seed and the Panthers being the No. 3 seed, only behind top-seeded Liberty North (13-5). Park Hill will play St. Joseph’s Central (8-10) at 3 p.m. and Park Hill South will take on Oak Park (9-6-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 to start the postseason.

If Park Hill and Park Hill South both win, the rivals would play each other in the semifinals on Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. With the postseason being single elimination, only one of the Park Hill teams would be able to play in the district championship, which is on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.

After winning the Smithville Invite on Sept. 23, Park Hill was in a bit of a losing skid as it fell in three of its next four games. Since then, the Trojans have turned things around and had won their last four games of the season ahead of their regular season finale against Park Hill South on Oct. 25.

The Panthers recently had a season-long 3-game winning streak against Lee’s Summit North (4-14), Park Hill and Platte County (13-4) be snapped with a 2-1 loss to Liberty (6-8) in penalty kicks on Oct. 11. Park Hill South has since split a pair of 1-0 games – falling to Lee’s Summit (11-13-1) on Oct. 18 and defeating Staley (9-8-1) on Oct. 20 – with two games left in the regular season.

The Panthers defeated the Trojans 2-1 in a regular season matchup earlier this year on Oct. 25. Park Hill South will close out regular season play at home against Liberty on Oct. 27.
