Trojans second half comeback bid falls short against Tigers

Park Hill senior quarterback Gavin Schaag threw for 299 yards on 17-of-38 completions, along with two touchdowns and three interceptions, in the Trojans’ 30-17 loss to Lee’s Summit on Oct. 6.

LEE’S SUMMIT – After falling behind 23-3 in the first half, the Park Hill football team (3-4) fought back to one possession before Lee’s Summit (3-4) put the game away late and won 30-17 on Oct. 6.

Park Hill’s only first half score was a 45-yard field goal by Keegan Turner after trailing 7-0 in the first quarter. Lee’s Summit scored 16 unanswered points in the second quarter.

The Trojans made some halftime adjustments and looked like a different offense in the second half, putting up two long touchdowns in the third quarter. In the opening minute, Gavin Schaag passed to Cam Jones who scored a receiving touchdown for the second straight game, this time from 44 yards out.

Later in the third quarter, Schaag found his favorite target – Bryce Lisaka – who ran 93 yards for a touchdown with 4:55 on the clock. That made the score 23-16, giving Park Hill some life, but that was short-lived.

Lee’s Summit added a 6-yard rushing touchdown in the final two minutes of the quarter, pushing its lead to 30-17. There was no scoring in the fourth quarter.

Schaag was a yard shy of passing for 300 when he completed 17 of his 38 passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Jones brought in six catches for 101 yards and Lisaka had three receptions for 133 yards as the duo had the two touchdowns.

Defensively, Cal Netherton had a sack, Davion Seymour recovered a fumble and Arsalan Sohail had an interception. Park Hill will have a chance to get back to .500 with a home game against Staley (2-5) on Oct. 13.
