Park Hill’s cross-country teams are coming into shape as post-season races approach. Park Hill competed at the Kearney Invitational this past Saturday, Oct. 12, at Jesse James Park.
Two of Park Hill’s runners on the guys’ side finished in the Top 30, led by seniors Jakob Johnston and John Mattivi. Johnston finished 26th with a time of 17:00.9, and Mattivi finished 28th with a time of 17:06.3. Sophomore Colton Hardy finished 39th with a time of 17:27.9, and senior Nathan Chen finished 44th with a time of 17:33.1. Senior Hudson Huff finished 76th with a time of 18:39.6 for the guys.
Those five runners have consistently been Park Hill’s Top Five runners up to this point in the season. Johnston and Mattivi have finished one-two in all the big races the Trojans have competed in. Johnston finished 28th at the Todd Warner Kickoff hosted by Staley and 10th at the Tim Nixon Invitational hosted by Liberty to begin the season. At the KCXC hosted by Ray-Pec last week, Johnston finished 56th. Mattivi hasn’t been far behind in those races. At Todd Warner, Mattivi finished 40th, and at Tim Nixon, he finished 27th.
Sophomore Stella Grothaus led the way for the Trojans’ ladies’ team with a finishing time of 23:59.4, which was good for 89th place, followed by freshman Krischen Kennaley, who finished 100th with a time of 24:50.1, and junior Sidney Hendrix, who finished 110th with a time of 25:44.4. Junior Kate Hance finished 113th with a time of 25:56.5 and sophomore Grace Miller finished 119th with a time of 26:28.7.
Like the guys’ team, the ladies’ team has been led by Grothaus at all of the team’s big races, including Tim Nixon, where she finished 59th, and Todd Warner, where she finished 95th to lead the team. At KCXC, she was the highest-finishing Trojan with a time of 24:02.1.
