Local schools and community groups plan to honor veterans this week with some events returning in person.
At West Platte High School, the annual program will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at the West Platte Performing Arts Center. Those who served or are currently serving in the armed forces are invited to attend. Reserve a seat by calling the school at (816) 640-2292. The event will also be live streamed on the district’s Facebook page.
The Parkville Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold its annual public service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Platte Woods United Methodist Church. Masks are required and the public is welcome.
The post will conduct its annual Buddy Poppy fund raiser from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 14 at the Parkville Price Chopper and Barry Road Hy-Vee.
The Platte City Veterans of Foreign Wars plan to host their regular meeting on Veterans Day at 6:30 p.m. at the Lions Club building in Platte City. The meeting is open to the public.
