Water, sewer rates going up in Dearborn

Residents of Dearborn and rural water users will see an increase in water and sewer rates after a special session vote.

The amended rates will be $40 minimum for the first 1,000 gallons of water for residential customers and then $8 per 1,000 gallons or 80 cents per 100 gallons for the next 1,000 gallons. The cost for commercial users is the same, while rural customers will pay a minimum of $46.77.

The sewer cost will be $14.25 for the first 1,000 gallons/month and then the next 1,000 gallons/month will be $4.25 per 1,000 gallons or .425 per 100 gallons.

The cost is the same for commercial customers and base charge for rural customers is $48.65 for sewer only.

For MODOT the cost is $10.90 per 1,000 gallons, subjected to adjustment for inflation every January

Previous residential/commercial water rates were $27.83 for the first 1,000 gallons and then each additional gallon cost $6.48, residential/commercial sewer charges were $12.98 for the first 1,000 gallons and $3.46 for each additional portion of 1,000 gallons.

Water rates for rural customers used to be $34.60 for the first 1,000 gallons and then $6.48 for each additional or portion of 1,000 gallons used.
