West Platte swept the first meeting of the season with its chief rival during a nonconference triangular Monday, Oct. 3 in Dearborn, Mo.
Winning both sets 25-12, the Bluejays dominated North Platte behind before beating Immaculata (Kan.), improving to 14-10-1 overall with just three matches left in the regular season. West Platte and North Platte did not meet earlier in the season during the KCI Conference Tournament.
North Platte, which received three kills and eight digs from McKenzie Brockhoff in the loss. Stats for West Platte from the two matches were not available.
Now 3-18-1 on the season, North Platte ended up swept in both matches, losing 25-9, 25-16 to Immaculata. Brockhoff, who continues to shine in a difficult rebuilding season, again led the offense with five kills while senior setter Lauren Payne totaled seven assists. Katie Sanders and Hollee Webb led the defense with five digs apiece.
West Platte and North Platte meet again in KCI Conference play Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Dearborn, Mo.
West Platte 2, Plattsburg 1
The Bluejays’ drastic swings in play showed up again in a KCI win Thursday, Sept. 29 in Weston, Mo.
After handily winning the opening set, West Platte came back for a 25-9, 17-25, 25-14 victory, improving the Bluejays to 3-1 in league play. They beat Plattsburg in three sets for the second time this season.
Nealie Niemeier and Daire Stelljes recorded seven kills apiece, while senior setter Megan Kottman had four of West Platte’s 10 aces. Karen Knox led the defense with eight digs.
West Platte played three sets for the second time in three days.
Bishop LeBlond 2, West Platte 1
The Golden Eagles rallied back to avoid an upset Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Weston, Mo.
In a quick turnaround rematch, West Platte took the opening set before LeBlond went on to a 21-25, 25-19, 25-22 victory. The Eagles swept the Bluejays in a meeting just three days earlier during the LeBlond Tournament but ended up having a much more difficult battle the second time around.
Ciara Davies (eight kills) and Stelljes (six kills) were the top attack options for West Platte, while Niemeier produced 22 digs in a strong defensive effort.
East Buchanan 2, North Platte 0
The Panthers lost their only KCI Conference matchup of the week 25-19, 25-15 on Thursday, Sept. 29 in Gower, Mo.
Lauren Payne, North Platte’s senior setter, dished out 11 assists with McKenzie Brockhoff putting up six kills, five digs and one block. Hollee Webb also had five digs, while Katie Sanders added a block.
KC Lutheran 2, North Platte 0
The Knights took a 25-10, 25-11 sweep Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Kansas City, Mo. North Platte’s McKenzie Brockhoff had six kills and five digs in the loss.
