West Platte volleyball wins pair in league ahead of regular season finale

West Platte continued to roll in KCI Conference play, sweeping Lawson in an important matchup Thursday, Oct. 5 in Weston, Mo.

The 25-18, 25-15 sweep improved West Platte to 5-1 in league with just one match remaining ahead of the postseason. Sam Rotterman provided 10 kills for the Bluejays, while junior Daire Stelljes added six.

Faith Stevens, West Platte’s sophomore setter, finished with 22 assists, while junior Ciara Davies (three blocks) and senior Karen Knox (eight digs) led the defense.

West Platte had won three straight in KCI play entering a Tuesday, Oct. 10 home matchup with North Platte (result not available). However, the second-place Bluejays have the No. 6 seed in the seven-team Class 1 District 15 bracket, which features six teams with a winning record.

Hosting this year’s tournament, West Platte opens against Wellington-Napoleon at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16.

West Platte 2, Hamilton 0

The Bluejays were dominant in a 25-11, 25-15 sweep Tuesday, Oct. 3 in Hamilton, Mo.

Lexie Smither recorded eight kills and Rotterman added seven, while Davies and Stelljes finished with three service aces apiece for West Platte. Stevens assisted on 15 of the 21 kills.

Plattsburg 2, North Platte 1

The Panthers took the opening set in dominant fashion but couldn’t hold the lead Thursday, Oct. 5 at North Platte High School in Dearborn, Mo.

North Platte’s 25-13 win in the opener was the first set won in KCI play since a sweep of Hamilton in mid-September. McKenzie Brockhoff contributed team-highs of 12 kills and eight digs, while setter Haylie Hensley had 17 total assists. Brockhoff and Frankie Davis had three service aces apiece.

Plattsburg ended up with a 13-25, 25-22, 25-20 win. North Platte dropped to 1-5 in KCI play with just the matchup against West Platte left in the regular season. The Panthers will be the No. 7 seed in Class 2 District 16 and open play in the seven-team bracket Monday, Oct. 16 against Lawson in Gower, Mo.

After going 0-3 in the Riverside Tournament over the weekend in Elwood, Kan., North Platte entered the matchup with West Platte at 2-25-1 on the season.

Mid-Buchanan 2, North Platte 0

The Dragons swept a KCI match 25-7, 25-22 on Tuesday, Oct. 3 in Faucett, Mo. Brockhoff and Kelsey Reynolds led North Platte’s limited offense with three kills apiece, and Brockhoff added six digs.
