It was a dangerous and deadly weekend on Platte County roads, with two separate fatality accidents, including the death of a 13-year-old Weston boy.
Chase Archambault, who recently celebrated his 13th birthday, died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 45 at Fifth Street in Weston. The accident occurred Saturday, March 13.
A prayer vigil was hosted by the West Platte Fellowship of Christian Athletes on Tuesday, March 16 at West Platte High School.
A Go Fund Me in his honor was also launched on Tuesday, garnering nearly $13,000 in donations within six hours.
“Chase’s family and everyone that knew him are devastated by this accident and want to prevent it from ever happening again,” states the fund raiser, organized by Whitney Mayer. “Funds will be used to advocate and support some type of safe crossing at that intersection and a memorial for Chase. Any funds remaining will be used for a scholarship for a West Platte student.”
Also according to the fund raiser page, the boy’s favorite activities were hunting, fishing, snow boarding, camping, video gaming, spending time with family and friends and sharing his plethora of facts, especially about dinosaurs. His family called them ‘Chase-isms.’ He also participated in sports at West Platte — football, wrestling, track and planned to play baseball.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office also responded to a fatality crash that occurred at the intersection of Highway 92 and Interurban Road on Sunday, March 14.
Police were notified of the crash around 5:12 p.m., according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Based on the initial investigation, it appears a 2010 Lincoln sedan was struck by a 2008 Chevy pickup truck, when the Lincoln entered Hwy. 92 from Interurban.
The Lincoln rolled over and came to rest on the north side of 92 Highway. The driver of the Lincoln, a 52-year-old male from Platte County, died at the scene. The passenger of the Lincoln was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the Chevy pickup truck received minor injuries.
The name of the deceased was not available by press time.
The crash is being investigated by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team.
