PLATTE CITY – Park Hill South had two of its seven wrestlers advance past the Class 2 District 4 Tournament at Platte County High School on Feb. 10.
Julia Smith made strides throughout her freshman campaign, most notably becoming the runner-up at districts in the 140-weight class. She currently holds a 27-6 record, the only Lady Panther without double digit losses.
Smith only had three matches due to a first-round bye and opened up with a 1:05 pin over Izzy Martinez, who wrestles at rival Park Hill. Smith pinned Winnetonka’s Emma Crockett and lost by fall to Raytown South’s Zayla Vann.
Lucia Henriquez earned her 34th win out of 50 tries at districts, leading the team in victories. Henriquez took third place in the 140-weight class.
Henriquez pinned her first two opponents, falling short in the semifinals and earning her way to the third-place match with another pin. She wrapped up the weekend with a 2:38 win by fall over St. Joseph’s Central’s Addison Brant.
Eva Estrada (110), Abigail Monaco (120) and Temperance Lowe (32-17) all walked away from the district tournament with two points each. Ella Christenen ended her sophomore campaign with 10 wins in the 155-weight class and her classmate Elisa Robles had a 4-15 record in the 115-weight class.
