One-fourth of the Park Hill South girls’ soccer team’s (14-8) losses this season came against Liberty North (19-0), including the Class 4 District 8 Championship on May 19.
The Lady Panthers fell 3-0 to the Lady Eagles back on April 20 and lost by the same score in the postseason matchup. Park Hill South was looking to win its second district title in the last three years but came up short.
Liberty North set the tone early, scoring in the ninth minute when Megan Hinnenkamp snuck in a goal on the center backs’ shoulders. Kylie Richardson made the score 2-0 in the 27th minute and Park Hill South went into the half with that deficit.
The Lady Panthers only had one shot in the first half, soaring over the top of the goal. Lauren Wood connected with Ekaterina Theo in the 67th minute to put the game away, 3-0.
To make it to the district championship, Park Hill South took down Liberty (14-9) for the second time this spring in the district semifinals on May 16. The Lady Panthers won 2-1, scoring first and responding after the Lady Blue Jays tied the game.
Park Hill South will be saying goodbye to a talented senior class that won at least 14 games each season they were in high school. Over their time, the Lady Panthers posted an overall record of 44-19-1, including 6-3 in the postseason and a trip to the Class 4 State Quarterfinals in 2021.
