The Park Hill girls’ soccer team (7-13) ran into a juggernaut squad in the Class 4 District 8 Semifinals, falling 6-0 to Liberty North (19-0) on May 16.
Liberty North was not only the No. 1 seed and the eventual district champions but has won 48 of its last 50 games dating back to 2021. Park Hill was the No. 4 seed in the tournament but was unable to keep up with the Lady Eagles, specifically Megan Hinnenkamp.
The Kansas City Suburban Conference Gold Division Offensive Player of the Year and University of Florida commit had multiple goals on the day, starting with a pair in the 18th and 29th minutes. Liberty North went into halftime up 2-0 and erupted with four second half goals.
Hinnenkamp earned a hat trick in the 55th minute and added another score 10 minutes later and the Lady Trojans trailed 4-0. The Lady Eagles scored two more down the stretch and won 6-0, which was the same score of the last matchup which was in the regular season.
Park Hill had some rough stretches this fall, starting off 1-8 and losing four of its final five games of the regular season. The Lady Trojans won four straight midway through the year with victories over Liberty (14-9), Staley (8-14), St. Joseph’s Central (8-11) and Platte County (11-12).
The Lady Trojans took down Staley in the opening round of districts but failed to make it to the district championship after winning five titles in a 6-year window from 2015-2021. Park Hill will look to replace some talented 2023 seniors next year and try to get back to another district championship.
