The Park Hill South baseball team (18-15) closed out regular season play on a high note, scoring a season-high in runs among road games in a 14-7 win over Mid-Buchanan (13-12) on May 10.
The Panthers traveled to Faucett, MO, and doubled their opponents runs on a day that saw a monster performance by Collin Morris. The Park Hill South senior had four hits and seven RBIs.
Evan Demint connected with three hits, while Bryan Wilhoite and Brody Hufft both had two hits. Park Hill South had multiple pitchers take the mound on the day as Aaron Boutz, Luke Russell and Bryce Aldridge all kept the Dragons off the scoreboard.
The Panthers were in a bit of a rough streak ahead of the regular season finale, losing eight of their last 11 games. Coming off a recent 2-game losing streak – being outscored 15-3 to Park Hill (12-16) and Staley (21-12) – Park Hill South will look to use this 7-run victory as potential momentum to fuel a postseason run.
It’s now win or go home time for the Panthers who are the No. 4 seed in the Class 6 District 8 Tournament. Park Hill South will match up with Oak Park (22-10) in an identical first-round matchup in last season’s district.
Last year, Park Hill South saw an early deficit before rallying and beating Oak Park 10-9 to advance to the semifinals where its season ended. The Panthers have won nine of the last 11 matchups in the series with the Northmen and looked to extend that on May 16 at 6 p.m.
The Class 6 District 8 Tournament is played at Creekside Baseball Complex. The district semifinals are on May 18 and the district championship is on May 22.
