Panthers, Trojans fall in semifinals

The spring tennis boys’ season came to a close for Park Hill and Park Hill South in the Class 3 District 8 Semifinals on May 9.

Park Hill has earned double digit wins in seven of the last eight years, including an 11-8 record in 2023. The Trojans took down Liberty North (7-8) in the opening round of districts but ran into a juggernaut of an opponent in the semifinals, losing to St. Joseph’s Central (16-1).

Park Hill South won 10 straight matches ahead of its season ending defeat against Liberty (20-5), ending with a 13-4-1 record. This was the Panthers’ third consecutive conference title and their best record since going 14-2 in 2011.

Park Hill and Park Hill South were in the Silver Division of the Kansas City Suburban Conference with multiple all-conference honors. Park Hill’s Tristan Houchin was on the first team and Conner Dennis was on the second team.

Park Hill South had three players make the all-conference teams. Henry Jacobs was on the Silver Division First Team, while Jack Arnold and Noah Patel were on the Silver Division Second Team.

In the Class 3 District 8 Tournament, Park Hill South beat Oak Park 5-0 before losing to Liberty 5-3. Park Hill took down Liberty North 5-0 before losing to St. Joseph’s Central 5-1.
