Park Hill has high aspirations for the fall

Park Hill senior Kate Martorana has started each of the last three years and made it to state last fall.

The Park Hill girls’ golfing team has high hopes with a pair of 4-year starters and a sophomore who qualified for state last year.

Makenna Kincheloe will be the top golfer for Park Hill following a prolific freshman campaign. She finished in 26th place at the 2022 Class 4 State Tournament.

“She did the best out of all members of our team last year and I believe she has the opportunity to do that again,” Park Hill girls’ golfing coach Rebecca Hart said. “She’s worked hard all summer, put in the time and has incredibly improved.”

Kate Martorana and Reagan Bell will be the No. 2 and No. 3 – in that order – as the duo has been starters the last three years. Competing for the final two spots are seniors Reha Akula and Layni Grego, along with sophomore Ruby Bell.

“Kate has stepped up as a great leader. Ruby has worked incredibly hard this summer. She’s been involved in a lot of competitions and a lot of lessons,” Hart said.

Martorana and Bell qualified as individuals last year, alongside Kincheloe. With a veteran lineup, Park Hill has the hopes to compete at state as a team, which is something that hasn’t happened in recent years.

“Competing in as many 18-hole tournaments as possible is going to be important. As the season progresses, it’s not terribly long, but it’s important to be able to stay in it physically and mentally for a six-hour golf round. So that’s something that we’re going to focus on and really try to do,” Hart said.
