A Platte City man accused of inappropriate social media interactions with a minor was arrested and then released from custody with no charges filed last week.
According to a statement from the Platte City Police Department, William Stone was taken into custody at around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15. He was held at the Platte County Detention Center on a 24-hour investigative hold and was released Friday. No charges have been filed as of press time.
Late last month, screen shots of an inappropriate conversation allegedly held via messenger between Stone and a 15-year-old girl were posted online. The screen shots were sent to the Central Platte Fire Protection District, where Stone worked as a firefighter, and to the Platte City Police Department.
On Dec. 27, the fire protection district posted a notice that after the notification “the member” was placed on leave until further investigation. Censored versions of the screen shots are still online and include an exchange between a “DJ Billy Stone” and an unnamed recipient, who says she is 15 years old. The messages include photos of genitalia and solicitations for explicit images of the young girl.
