Weston chief of police Blanton to retire

After 38 years on the job in the city of Weston, chief of police Terry Blanton will retire this fall.

Blanton recently announced his retirement, effective in mid-September. The city has launched the search for a new chief of police, with candidates expected to respond by August.

First hired as a police officer in 1982, Blanton became chief of police in 1995.

The board of aldermen held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, July 13, where the retirement and search for a new chief was discussed.

Candidates will oversee the operation and activities of the police department, establish policies, hire personnel, administer the budget and handle major investigations.
