Platte County Sheriff’s Office deputies used a tire deflation device to finally disable a vehicle which led authorities on a brief chase on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 10 in northwestern Platte County.
The driver fled on foot into a field and nearby woodline before being taken into custody shortly after noon. The suspect was described as a 25-year-old black male from Kansas City, Kan., but Sgt. Jerin Almond of the sheriff’s office could not release his name as of that afternoon.
No charges were filed in the case as of Tuesday evening.
According to Almond, a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation near Oberdiek Lane and Highway 45, just north of Farley, Mo. The vehicle fled northbound before turning east on Highway 92. The driver was involved in a one-vehicle crash that flattened one tire but continued on before losing control multiple times.
Eventually, the car came to rest just short of Tracy along Highway 92 with three flat tires after the use of the tire deflation device.
Authorities on the scene were observed searching the field located south and west of 92 near where the suspect was captured. Almond said they were looking for any items he might have ditched during the foot pursuit.
