Platte County freshman Tyler Stambersky led the way for the Pirates’ girls’ team at the Missouri Class 4 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gans Creek in Columbia.
Stambersky finished 16th with a time of 20:26.4 and will return home with a medal in her first effort at the state competition.
In the boys’ race, two of Platte County’s runners earned medals. Senior Tanner Jenks finished eighth with a time of 16:39.8, and his teammate Blake Herron, a junior, was right behind him, finishing ninth with a time of 16:40.1.
On the girls’ team, other runners finishing the race included senior Madelynn Nichols, who finished 59th with a time of 21:29.7, followed by junior Maddie Stewart, who finished 73rd with a time of 21:47.7; senior Madison Palmer, who finished 89th with a time of 22:07.5; freshman Arsema Ayiche who finished 95th with a time of 22:18.8; senior Brooklynne Jenni who finished 97th with a time of 22:20.5; and junior Eleanor McCoy who finished 108th with a time of 22:35.3.
On the boys’ team, other runners finishing the race included junior Donavin Ness, who finished 40th with a time of 17:16.6; junior Elijah Jackson, who finished 68th with a time of 17:55.8; freshman Landon McKinzie, who finished 75th with a time of 18:02.2; sophomore Jacobi Keith, who finished 116th with a time of 18:37.1; and senior Ethan Smith, who finished right behind with a time of 18:38.5.
Overall, the boys’ team finished fifth in points while the girls’ team finished 10th.
