West Platte Girls finish runner-up at state

The West Platte girls’ cross country team finished runner-up at the Missouri Class 2 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gans Creek in Columbia.

The Jays did not have any runners earn individual medals, but they did have enough runners at the top half of the race to earn second place, led by a freshman, Jersey O’Neal, who finished 40th with a time of 21:42.7. Right behind her was junior Addison Bailey, with a time of 21:43.8 and freshman Katherine Carletti who finished 45th with a time of 21:56.2. Sophomore Caroline Ransome finished 49th with a time of 21:57.2 followed by sophomore Hana Hoover who finished 54th with a time of 21:59.5, and junior Payton Reber who finished 65th with a time of 22:29.8.

The boys’ team finished eighth overall and were led by senior Jonah McGivern who finished 54th with a time of 18:44.6, followed by junior Noah Rees, who finished 62nd with a time of 18:53.6, freshman Sam Miller who finished 79th with a time of 19:25.6, freshman Charles Trease who finished 83rd with a time of 19:29.9, sophomore Benjamin Pendergast who finished 86th with a time of 19:30.8, senior Thomas Deffet finished with a time of 20:17.6, and sophomore Wyatt Larsen finished with a time of 22:15.5.
