Brothers charged in burglaries

Two brothers have been charged in Platte County after a string of burglaries in rural areas earlier this year.

Moses Morrison, 19, of Parkville, and Aaron Morrison, 18, of Independence, were arrested in March after an investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

The brothers are charged with five counts of burglary between them and were released from custody late last month. Hearings are scheduled for later this month for both.

According to court documents, Platte County officers responded to a burglary off Rensing Road on Feb. 18. When the homeowner arrived home, an open window was discovered. No items were taken and nothing was damaged beyond removal of the window screen, but a Playstation 2 was reportedly moved from its location and left on the floor.

The homeowner had security cameras, which picked up Moses Morrison attempting to approach the front door and leaving when he spotted the camera.

On Feb. 19, police responded to a home on Crooked Road less than a quarter mile from the previous burglary. The target this time was a business, and security cameras picked up an individual entering the building and rummaging through various rooms and the office. An iPhone and $310 in cash were taken. Moses Morrison was again identified on the security footage.

Moses allegedly returned to the same site on Feb. 28, where surveillance video caught him attempting to enter a locked door. He also checked a nearby window for access and on Feb. 29 was observed in the lobby of the same business, looking through the desk.

By March 18, Aaron Morrison got in on the act, according to court documents. Deputies again responded to the same business off Crooked Road, where the building had been burglarized in the overnight hours of March 15-16. Both brothers were seen on security video entering through a side door. A tablet computer and nearly $500 in cash was stolen.

Moses Morrison was back on March 19, where cameras caught him at the same location on Crooked Road entering through an unlocked kitchen window. Cameras picked him up attempting entry to the building from several doors and windows before gaining entry. This time, $460 in cash was stolen from the office.

The brothers are connected to a few other incidents in the same area, due to the methods used in the burglaries.

During the investigation, police discovered the iPhone had been sold to an ecoATM at a Kansas City Walmart. Moses Morrison’s identification was connected to the ATM sale. Deputies were also able to identify the brothers due to an incident involving a domestic disturbance in Parkville, where Aaron Morrison was arrested.
