Palmer Keith broke the Pirate school record in the individual medley when the Platte County boys’ swimming team finished in sixth place out of 13 teams in the Raytown Eubank Invitational on Sept. 30.
Platte County’s previous school individual medley record was held by Nathaniel Savage with a time of 2:03.62 since 2008 before Keith finished the race ahead of all his competitors in a time of 2:03.50. The sophomore also finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.81, earning himself a second-place finish.
Dylan Bietz was the first swimmer to finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.98. The Pirate also ended in fourth place with a time of 52.52 when he competed in the 100-yard freestyle.
Collin Burton finished in third place in the 100-yard butterfly, followed by Deacon Gutshall in sixth place. Gutshall finished the 100-yard backstroke in second place when he ended the race in 1:02.59 and Gage Jonkman was right behind him with a time of 1:03.52.
Platte County’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jonkman, Burton, Keith and Bietz finished in third place with a time of 1:35.77. Douglas Wallace ended the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.57, earning himself a second-place finish followed by Austin Hough in third place with a time of 1:15.10.
Platte County ended the invitational with 200 points and finished in fourth place in the Blue Division. The Pirates’ next competition will be on Oct. 9 at the Platte County Community Center at 12 p.m.
