Lady Jays sting Hornets

Everything went right for the Lady Blue Jays in their most recent contest – both offensively and defensively – and the West Platte girls’ basketball team throttled Penney 54-19 on Dec. 17.

The Blue Jays forced 36 Hornet turnovers and held Penney to only five made field goals all contest long. West Platte had a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter and a 35-9 lead at the break.

West Platte converted on 18 of its 38 field goal attempts, good for 40.4 percent. The Blue Jays poured out 29 points off turnovers and 14 transition points.

Julia Pattison had a dominant outing when the West Platte sophomore point guard made eight of her 11 field goal attempts to score 18 points, along with nine steals, four rebounds and three steals. Avery Holmes had nine points and five steals, including three of the Blue Jays’ five 3-pointers.
