The Blue Jays competed in their biggest tournament of the season so far when the West Platte wrestling team traveled to Sedalia for the Battle at Katy Trail on Dec. 17 and 18.
West Platte finished in 21st place out of the 41 total Class 1 schools that were in the tournament. The Blue Jays had two medalists – Cameron Williams who finished in fifth place in the 160-weight class and Lane Scott who finished in sixth place in the 195-weight class.
West Platte had four more wrestlers in the championship bracket and five wrestlers in the consolation bracket. In the championship bracket, Macon McDonald was the top Blue Jay finisher who didn’t medal when he ended in 10th place in the 285-weight class.
West Platte had three more top-15 finishers, including 11th place 138-weight class finisher Peyson Chandler. Tony Depetre ended in 12th place in the 152-weight class and Tristan Newkirk finished in 15th place in the 132-weight class.
In the consolation bracket, David Brown was the first-place finisher in the 182-weight class. McKanan Reade was the next highest Blue Jay as he was 6th place in the 126-weight class.
In the 120-weight class, Vilhelm Johansen was in 9th place and in the 132-weight class Josh Brown ended in 11th place. Xavier Williams was the final Blue Jay wrestler to finish in the consolation bracket when he competed in the 170-weight class and received 13th place.
