The North Platte girls’ basketball team (6-2) took down Mid-Buchanan (5-4) 51-32 in the Panthers’ first conference game of the regular season on Dec. 17.
While the Panthers recently won the consolation in the conference tournament, the Dragons were the last team standing as they shined early in the competitive KCI Conference. North Platte set the tone for conference play with a big home win over Mid-Buchanan due to a strong second half.
The Panthers couldn’t quite extend their lead in the opening 24 minutes of play. North Platte led Mid-Buchanan 10-7 at the end of the first period and held on to a 16-15 halftime lead.
The third quarter was a different story when the Panthers outscored their KCI rival by 19 points and held Mid-Buchanan to only four points in the period. North Platte led 39-19 entering the final frame and was able to cruise to the 19-point victory.
Josie Roach had a big game as the senior had 20 points and eight rebounds. Gracie Ramsey added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Lonee French was a menace on defense when the junior forced six steals.
