The Red Division wasn’t ready for the Park Hill South girls’ soccer team (7-4) this past week, with the Panthers propelling past a pair of conference opponents with a 12 to zero margin.
In Park Hill South’s second Red Division matchup of the spring, it scored a pair of goals in each half to take down Staley (7-3) on the road by a score of 4-0 on April 12. Four different Panthers scored, starting with Mackenzie Wright in the 32nd minute.
Keegan Good found Olivia Clemons in 39’ to add another goal to the scoreboard and Park Hill South went into the half with a 2-0 lead. The Panthers added a pair of scores in the 56th and 57th minute from Good and Kate Hermelink to defeat the Falcons.
North Kansas City (2-7) was no match for Park Hill South as the Panthers buzzed past the Hornets 8-0 on April 15. Clemons had a hat-trick, including the eighth goal – and her third overall – in the 51st minute to end the game on the spot, due to the eight-goal mercy rule.
Park Hill South was in control straight out of the gate, scoring two goals in the opening three minutes. Hermelink got the ball rolling with the opening score off a pass from Suzi Schulze, followed by a goal by Good from a Wright pass.
Clemons found the back of the net twice in a two-minute span, in the 10th and 12th minutes, and the Panthers held a 4-0 lead. Park Hill South added two scores at 17’ before taking a dominant 7-0 margin at the break with another goal in the 36th minute.
Good connected with Hermelink for her second goal right before Gates found the back of the net. Isabelle Larson slipped the final score in ahead of the half – for her first goal of the season – as the Panthers had 29 shots including 19 shots on goal in the opening 40:00.
The Panthers move to 3-0 in the Red Division as they also defeated Oak Park (5-3) in the season opener on March 24. Park Hill South is competing in the Blue Springs South Tournament this week and fell 6-4 in its first game against Blue Valley West on April 18.
In the Panthers’ highest-scoring contest of the season, the Jaguars outscored them three to two in each half. Hermelink started the game off with a goal in the 19th minute.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute when Clemons slipped a score past the Jaguars’ goalkeeper. Blue Valley West scored three goals in a five-minute stint from 35’ to 40’ and Park Hill South trailed by one goal at halftime.
The Jaguars struck first in the second half as the Panthers trailed 5-3 four minutes after play continued following the break. Good took a pass from Megan Wells and chipped at the deficit with a goal at 52’.
Blue Valley West scored to take a two-score advantage and Good found the back of the net once again in the 70th minute. With the Jaguars holding on to a 6-5 lead in the closing minutes, they put the nail in the coffin with another score at 77’.
Park Hill South had 19 shots, including 13 shots on goal, while Blue Valley West had 18 shots and 11 shots on goal. The Panthers were scheduled to take on Blue Springs South (4-5) in the second round of the tournament on April 19.
