It’s not always easy to score four or more goals in a single soccer game, but Park Hill South (9-4) has made that feat look effortless as of late.
The Lady Panthers have made or surpassed the four-goal margin in four consecutive trips on the field, outscoring their opponents 20 to six in the stretch. All six goals that Park Hill South gave up in that run was against one team, Blue Valley West, thanks to Annabelle Winter who has been stepping up as the Lady Panthers’ goalkeeper.
Park Hill South has shut out three of its last four opponents, and four total teams on the season, and has won back-to-back games. Following a 6-4 loss to Blue Valley West in the opening game of the Blue Springs South Tournament, Park Hill South defeated the host – Blue Springs South (4-8) – by a score of 4-0 on April 19.
It was an intense first half with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. The Lady Panthers were more aggressive than their opposition in the 40:00 with eight shot attempts – seven of which were on goal.
Keegan Good broke the nil-to-nil tie in the 21st minute when the senior slipped one through the net. Park Hill South went into the break leading 1-0 but added three goals on 17 shot attempts in the final 40:00.
Olivia Clemons got on the scoreboard in the first two minutes of the second half when Lily DiBernardo connected her with a pass. Suzi Schulze scored two goals in a two-minute stint at 56’ and 57’ to give the Lady Panthers a four-goal margin and the win.
In a conference matchup on the road, Park Hill South took care of business against St. Joseph’s Central (6-5) on April 22. The Lady Panthers had six players connect with the back of the net in the 7-0 victory.
Clemons scored her 12th goal this season – which is the most among all Park Hill South players – to open up the contest. DiBernardo scored her second goal of the spring off an assist from Good.
Good put the Lady Panthers up 4-0 with back-to-back goals, with one goal in each half with Park Hill South taking a 3-0 lead at the break, as the senior now has 11 goals and eight assists on the year. Olivia Gates helped Park Hill South keep its foot on the throttle when she assisted a goal to Kate Hermelink.
After leading 6-0, the Lady Panthers had a pair of young players get involved when Maddie Fosmoe scored on a pass from Isabelle Larson. That was the first score and assist by each player in 2022.
The Lady Panthers have five games left on the season ahead of the Class 4 District 8 Tournament at Heritage Middle School, starting on May 14. Park Hill South’s next three games will be at home, beginning with a matchup with Staley (8-3) on April 28.
