Lady Pirates dominate at Winnetonka

The Lady Pirates dominated at the Winnetonka meet when the Platte County girls’ swim team outscored its three opponents by 262 total points on Jan 5.

Platte County finished the meet with 879 points and was followed by Winnetonka in second place with 268 points, Smithville in third place with 214 points and Saint Michael’s in fourth place with 135 points. In the three relays at the meet, the Pirates had the two top finishing squads in each race.

Platte County Drew Delay, above, was on the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that finished in first place at Winnetonka on Jan. 5.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Madeline Stone, Drew Delay, Maredith Ballou and Brooklynn Hays finished in first place with a time of 2:03.68. Those same four Pirates competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay and ended with a time of 4:08.82, earning first place.

The Platte County relay team of Jayden Benninghoff, Ella Chiddix, Blair Bolling and Madeline Judy ended the 200-yard medley relay in 2:16.95 for second place. Alyson Stone, Samantha Teufel, Maria Molinari and Chiddix finished in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:56.54.

Platte County’s top-two 200-yard freestyle relay teams finished in 1:58.98 and 2:08.03 led by Ireland Shank, Erian Stone, Benninghoff and Judy on the first-place team and Lauren Beatty, Olivia Aegersen, Bolling and Alyson Stone on the second-place team.

Hays impressed in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, earning first place in both events with times of 1:08.41 and 2:25.55, respectively. Erian Stone and Alyson Stone finished in back-to-back places in the 200-yard freestyle in third and fourth place with times of 2:50.75 and 3:08.83.

In the 100-yard freestyle, the first eight swimmers to complete the competition were Pirates led by Ballou in 58.27 seconds. Ballou was the only swimmer to finish in under a minute and she was followed by Shank, Erian Stone, Bolling, Charlotte Hammond, Molinari, Cassidy Hostikka and Olivia Aegersen.

Ballou also finished in third place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.78 and was followed by six consecutive Pirates: Delay, Judy, Emilee Handke, Alyson Stone, Teufel, and Evette Brouse. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Shank finished in second place, Benninghoff finished in third place and Beatty finished in fourth place.
