The West Platte boys’ wrestling team finished in second place out of 13 teams at the Mid-Buchanan Invitational on Jan. 8.
Mid-Buchanan won its home tournament by finishing with 93 points and West Platte was the next best team with 42 points. The Blue Jays narrowly toppled Shenandoah (Iowa) who finished with 38 points, Polo who ended with 36.5 points and Maryville who had 34 points.
The Blue Jays had seven medalists: Cameron Williams (160), Peyson Chandler (138), Lane Scott (195), David Brown (182), Macon McDonald (285), Xavier Williams (170) and Anthony DePetre (152). Cameron Williams was the top-finisher for West Platte when the senior finished in first place in the 160-weight class.
The trio of Chandler, Brown and Scott impressed as the three West Platte wrestlers finished in second place in their weight classes. To help the Blue Jays finish in second place overall, Macon McDonald finished in fourth place, Xavier Williams ended in fifth place and DePetre medaled with a sixth-place finish.
