Lady Pirates recognized for fantastic fall season

Platte County’s Maggie McBratney was the only Lady Pirate singles player to be selected to the White Division First Team this season.

After impressive fall campaigns, multiple Platte County girl athletes earned postseason honors from the Lady Pirates’ tennis and softball teams.

While the Lady Pirates fell short of a district title, eight players from the Platte County softball team (13-14) earned all-district honors as the Lady Panthers went 2-1 in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament. Platte County also had eight players earn All-Conference Honors in the White Division and six players were selected for all-regional.

After falling in the district championship, five infielders, one outfielder and one at-large player made the all-district first team. Dani Salisbury struck out 15 batters in 16 total innings and only allowed seven runs to earn the honor as a pitcher, while the senior was also a second team all-regional and second team all-conference.

Demi Riechers and Takayla Lawson both made the Class 4 District 8 First Team as infielders as Riechers went four for 10 and Lawson had four hits and six RBIs in the tournament. Riechers was also rewarded with second team all-conference honors and all-regional, while Lawson was on the first team of both.

Abby Reynolds capped off her impressive center fielder career with another accolade, claiming a spot on the all-district first team with three hits and three RBIs. That was after being good enough in the regular season for second team all-conference and all-regional.

Freshman Morgan Shields made the cut as an all-district, all-conference and all-regional catcher. Her sister and senior teammate Makenzie Shields made it as at-large in districts and conference, along with being awarded as a utility player on the all-regional team.

Avery Webster made the Class 4 District 8 Second Team as an outfielder as she had four hits and two RBIs, while also being on the White Division First Team. Emma Reed was a Class 4 District 8 Honorable Mention as she went four for 10 with two RBIs in the tournament and also made the White Division Second Team.

Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, the Platte County girls’ tennis team had five players earn all-conference honors in the Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division. Sophomore Maggie McBratney was the only singles player to earn first team honors.

While also making it to state, Addison Mayne and Cosette Stephenson were White Division First Team selections among doubles teams as Ellie Fish and Olivia Holbrook made the White Division Second Team in doubles. Holbrook joined Mayne and Stephenson in earning singles all-conference second team honors.
