PLATTE CITY – The volleyball season is slowly coming to an end and Platte County (15-7-2) is on a roll lately, winning four in a row to earn the No. 2 seed in districts.
Having made it to the Class 4 Final Four in two of the last three seasons, Platte County has claimed the top-seed in districts every year since 2020. This season, St. Pius X (16-3) has claimed the No. 1 seed in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.
Platte County was in a bit of a rut before the recent winning streak, going 1-1-2 in the Winnetonka Tournament on Sept. 16 then was swept by Liberty North (16-5) in the next match on Sept. 19. Since then, the Lady Pirates haven’t lost and have three regular season matches left to date.
Platte County swept St. Joseph’s Central (5-12-2) on the road on Sept. 21. The Lady Pirates have won back-to-back-to-back home matches in four sets since then, moving to 6-1 at Pirate Fieldhouse.
Platte County took down Park Hill South (5-12) and Smithville (6-9) on back-to-back nights, then took on Raymore-Peculiar (12-9-1) on Sept. 28 after a day off. Each of the last four regular season matches for the Lady Pirates are conference rivals as they currently sit at 4-0 in the White Division of the Kansas City Suburban Conference.
Platte County took on Raytown (7-6-1) on Oct. 3 and will head to Belton (10-9-1) on Oct. 5. The Lady Pirates’ home season finale will be against William Chrisman (6-15) on Oct. 10 and they will end the regular season at Grain Valley (12-6) on Oct. 12.
Platte County will open the postseason against No. 7 seeded Kansas City East (6-8-1) on Oct. 17. The Lady Pirates will host the Class 4 District 8 Tournament.
