Lady Trojans snap 4-game losing streak

Following a losing skid that consisted of four straight defeats and seven losses in its last eight contests, the Park Hill softball team got back on track with a 9-5 victory over Raymore-Peculiar on Oct. 4.

Raymore-Peculiar scored one run in the top of the opening inning, but the Trojans responded with seven runs in the first two innings. Grace Woods got the scoring surge started with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

In the second inning, a double by Allison Gonier allowed Morina Goodman to score for Park Hill. Antonia Muniz hit a ground ball and reached first base after an error by the Panthers, while Gonier scored another Trojan run.

A pair of singles by Mackenzie Morenita and Woods gave Park Hill a 7-1 lead after the second inning.  Raymore-Peculiar scored one more run in the top of the fifth inning and Park Hill answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The first two Trojans’ batters got out in the inning, but Park Hill’s next three batters hit the ball to extend its lead. After a single by Muniz, Mya Lewis tripled and the senior crossed home plate.

Morenita hit a pop fly and reached first base on an error by the Panthers, while Lewis scored to give the Trojans a 9-2 lead. Raymore-Peculiar scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning but it was too little, too late.

Park Hill had eight hits in the contest, led by Muniz and Woods who had two hits each. Gonier, Lewis and Morenita all had 1 RBI, while Woods added 4 RBIs.

Muniz started out on the mound for the Trojans and she struck out three batters in six innings. Cadence Sackuvich pitched one inning and only gave up one hit.

Park Hill will have one more regular season contest before the Class 5 District 8 begins. The Trojans will host Liberty North (17-10) in their regular season finale on Oct. 7.
