Liberty North shuts out Park Hill South

For only the second time in this short season, the Park Hill South boys’ soccer team (5-3) lost at home on September 24.

Liberty North (8-3) came to town having won six of its last eight contests this fall and seven consecutive victories against Park Hill South dating back to 2017. Since 2013, the Panthers have lost all but one game – a 3-2 triumph on September 13, 2017 – with 13 total matchups in that time counting this season.

The Eagles came out on top by a score of 2-0 thanks to dominating the time of possession. Liberty North had the ball for 61.1 percent of the game, while Park Hill South held possession for 38.9 percent.

Although the Panthers didn’t have as much time with the ball, they were the more aggressive team with more shot attempts. Park Hill South had 24 shot attempts and Liberty North had 10 shot attempts.

A reason the Panthers had more attempts was because they were a more efficient team moving the ball. The home team had 347 passes on a 77 percent pass rate, while the road team had 243 passes on a 68 percent success rate.

The Eagles scored one goal in each half, finding the back of the net in the 28th and 50th minutes. Park Hill South will look to bounce back when it goes to Lee’s Summit North (3-7) on September 29.
