Man struck, killed by BNSF train in Parkville

A Kansas City man died in downtown Parkville Saturday night, Oct. 16, when he was struck by a train near Main Street.

Christopher Burdick, 43, was hit by a westbound BNSF train a little after 7 p.m. Saturday after having dinner at a downtown restaurant. While the Parkville Microbrew Festival was wrapping up in English Landing Park nearby, Parkville police have said he was not in attendance at the festival.

The incident remains under investigation as the cross guards and lights for the railroad crossing had been activated when Burdick crossed the tracks. Police said he had crossed the tracks to walk someone to their vehicle and was struck when returning to Main Street from the city lot south of the tracks.

A visitation for Burdick will be held from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home, Gladstone, followed by a prayer service from 2-3 p.m.
