Mid-Buchanan finished in seventh place at the Class 1 championships and did so with a little bit of help from a pair of North Platte students.
The Dragons finished with 73 ½ points and was third among KCI Conference schools in the standings. Lathrop finished third and Lawson was fourth, each bringing home a trophy. Add in Gallatin taking sixth place, four of the top 10 resided in northwest Missouri.
The North Platte students each got a win at the state tournament, which ran from Thursday to Saturday, Feb. 20-22 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Clayton Rotterman (120) and Seth Cruz (195) both went 1-2 in their first trip to the state meet.
Rotterman lost his opener to Holden’s Logan Yoder — who ended up taking sixth place — by pin in the second period. Rotterman kept his season alive with a win in the wrestlebacks by getting an 18-2 tech fall over Kiaro Herdlick of Brentwood.
His run ended with a loss to Knob Noster’s Sam Wilhelm, 10-0, in the second round of the consolation bracket.
Cruz lost his opener to Centralia’s Trevor Bodine by a pin. Bodine ended up taking third place.
Cruz then got a 6-0 win against Steven Ludwig of Bishop DuBourg to keep his season alive. On Friday, Cruz lost by fall to Versailles Riley Rademann, who ended up taking fifth place.
The Dragons had a handful of state placers: Tim Speer (132/5th place), Denton Biller (138/6th), Creed Webster (160/4th) and Wade Stanton (170/6th).
