Mueller wins Blue Division Player of the Year

While the Pirates’ season ended before they preferred it to, five players on the Platte County boys’ basketball team made enough noise throughout the year to earn postseason awards.

After leading the team in numerous offensive categories and to a second straight conference title, Jarett Mueller was the Kansas City Suburban Conference Blue Division Player of the Year. Mueller also earned a spot on the all-district team after lifting Platte County to the Class 5 District 8 Championship when the senior averaged 12.3 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 33 percent from downtown in the tournament.

In the regular season, Mueller made it difficult for defenses every night he stepped on the court. He poured out 78 made shots from behind the arc on 37 percent shooting en route to scoring 18 points per game and ended with 42 percent from the field and 82 percent from the charity stripe.

Platte County senior Jarett Mueller was chosen as the Kansas City Suburban Conference Blue Division Player of the Year this season.

Chandavian Bradley missed the second half of the district championship game with an ankle injury – after scoring 10 points, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking two shots in less than 11 minutes on the court – but still was selected to the all-district team. The 6’6” junior also made the Blue Division First-Team when the big man averaged 12.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, two steals and 1.2 blocks, with numerous slam dunks along the way.

The remaining three Platte County starters, all of which are seniors, were Blue Division Honorable Mentions: Jace Trimble, Isaac Havemeier and Brody Fulk. After leading Platte County to a 22-5 overall record and 10-2 conference record, Platte County head boys’ basketball coach Rick Hodge was awarded the Blue Division Coach of the Year.

Trimble added hot shooting to the Pirates’ talented backcourt when the senior made 37 total 3-pointers this season at a 30 percent rate. Trimble also led the team in total steals with 75 and second on the team in total assists with 103.

Havemeier made 64 percent of his field goals and shot 46.2 percent from downtown throughout his senior campaign when he scored 9.7 points and grabbed 8.5 rebounds. Fulk averaged 9.2 points and 5.3 rebounds, while leading the team with 4.8 assists per game.
